SPORTMAN/WOMAN OF THE MONTH

Dame Mary Elizabeth Peters,

Mary Peters moved to Ballymena at age eleven. She won a gold medal in the Summer Olympics in Munich. Peters has been awarded CBE and been appointed MBE. The charities that she supports are The Outward Bound Trust, and Springhill Hospice in Rochdale. N. Ireland's premier athletics track, is the track named after her. She won two gold medals for the pentathlon, and gold and silver medal for the shot put in the Commonwealth Games. Mary now lives in Lisburn just outside Belfast, and her nationality is British. My favorite track and field event is high jump.
